1
Make a thick flood consistency royal icing, about a 5-second royal icing. Learn more about royal icing consistencies here.
-
2
Split the icing into 3-5 batches, and color with the food coloring of your choice.
-
3
Choose a base royal consistency color, in this case, we did orange, and fill a shallow bowl or dish with this color.
-
4
Use your piping bags to squirt different colors of royal icing onto your base icing.
-
5
Let sit for 5-10 minutes, which will allow time for air bubbles to surface. Pop air bubbles as they surface.
-
6
Swirl the icing with a scribe tool or toothpick.
-
7
Gently dip cookies in the icing, shaking off the excess and moving the icing around as needed with your scribe tool or toothpick. Be sure to pop any air bubbles. Let iced cookies dry for 24 hours or until icing is fully set before packaging or stacking.
