Bake and cool cookies fully before decorating. Prepare royal icing in the following colors and consistencies:
Outline/Piping Consistency:
Red
Dark Green (mix a tiny amount of Super Black gel food coloring into Leaf Green icing to achieve a dark green)
WhiteFlood Consistency:

Outline the plaque shape with the red outline consistency icing.
-
3
Flood the shape of the cookie with the red flood consistency icing. Allow this icing base to dry for 1-2 hours or until fully crusted over before moving onto the next step.

Using the white outline consistency icing, pipe the lettering of your choice onto the center of the cookie. Here, I used a mini projector to project the lettering onto my cookie so I could trace it with my icing. If you do not have access to a projector, you can practice free handing your lettering on a piece of parchment paper. You can also follow our guide for hand lettering without a projector. Make sure your icing is toothpaste consistency to hold its shape and give you the control you need to pipe letters. Learn more about icing consistencies here.

We will finish this cookie design by piping some holiday greenery above and below our lettering. Using the dark green outline consistency icing, pipe some lines for the shape of your greenery.
-
8
Using the same dark green outline consistency icing, pipe leaves and little branches coming off the original lines you piped. You can gently coax the icing into place using a scribe tool or toothpick.
-
9
Add small dots of the red outline consistency icing to be holly berries coming off the greenery.

Finish your design by adding any remaining leaves or greenery details you’d like to make your design feel complete. Allow this process to feel organic and fun!
Enjoy!
