Bake and cool cookies fully before decorating. We recommend Ann’s Signature Sugar Cookie Recipe. Or, you can lean into a bright flavor profile with this Cherry Coconut cookie recipe. Prepare royal icing in the following colors and consistencies:

2
Outline the entire cross shape with blue outline consistency icing.

3
Flood the interior of the cross with blue flood consistency icing. Use a scribe tool or toothpick to gently move the icing around. This ensures full coverage and also pops any air bubbles in the icing.
Wait for this base flood to dry for 30-60 minutes, or until just crusted over. Placing cookies under a fan may help to dry the icing more quickly. -
4
Use your white outline consistency icing to create an elongated figure 8 or infinity symbol shape on the vertical part of the cross.
Start at the center of the cross, and position the piping bag above the cookie so that the icing falls on the cookie, outlining the figure 8 shape. Your white icing should be roughly toothpaste consistency. -
5
Repeat step 4, but on the horizontal arms of the cross. Your two figure-8 shapes should intersect at the middle of the cross.

6
Using offset tweezers, place a gold pearl sprinkle at the intersection of white lines, in the center of the cross. Alternatively, you can add a dab of white outline consistency icing there to look like a pearl.
