Bake and cool cookies before decorating. Make sure cookies are fully cooled. If they are warm, the icing will run off of them. Make royal icing. Learn how to mix different consistencies of royal icing here>>

2Cut the tip off of your disposable piping bag. Make sure you leave a small tip for precision when piping.
-
3With your piping consistency icing, carefully pipe a border around your heart. You may be able to achieve more stability by placing your non-dominant hand on the wrist of your piping hand for smoother piping.
-
4Once the outline is complete, stop squeezing and lift your piping bag, making sure that you have formed a complete border around the heart shape.
-
5
This border will determine the area that you flood.
-
6
Time to flood! With your flood consistency royal icing, fill in your heart shape.
-
7
Apply the icing liberally, ensuring full coverage.
-
8
Using a toothpick, gently move the flood icing around while it is still wet. Ensure that the entire cookie is filled with icing. The border you created earlier will keep the icing from spilling over the side of the cookie.
